NJSCSW was founded with the intent of maintaining high professional standards for clinical social workers as well as offer colleagues an organization that has likeminded social workers. Our members work in public agencies, private practice, and university settings, and we welcome participants with diverse backgrounds and interests.

The NJSCSW is affiliated with the Clinical Social Work Guild (CSWG), a national organization sponsoring legislative initiatives affiliated with the AFL-CIO. It provides us with a large constituency for purposes of advocacy on pertinent issues.

We encourage members to attend board meetings and be involved at whatever level of activity is of interest.

The NJSCSW was instrumental in the passage of the New Jersey State Licensing Act for Social Workers in the late 1980's, which was passed in May 1991. It continues to work on issues that vitally affect our members. Today, we are actively supporting parity legislation at the national level in cooperation with other group, such as the Mental Health Liaison Group, the Clinical Social Work Guild, etc. Our work also includes issues that concern our members regarding the current climate we face with insurance companies.

As a professional membership organization, we are pre-approved to offer social work CE credits for all our Educational Seminars, which are free to members. These seminars are typically small informal gatherings that offer collegiality and networking. We offer several
types of memberships depending on your needs.

NJSCSW members have an E-list Serve available which is a group email at Yahoo!. The email messages go to all members in the group when one member sends a message.  The address is
NJSCSW@yahoogroups.com. This is part of membership as well as our newsletter “The Forum”. The Forum includes clinical articles submitted by members, as well as professional updates.
